PFT Prepares for Competition in Bakersfield
October 13th, 2026
The Precision Flight Team is preparing for the upcoming National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Region II SAFECON competition in Bakersfield, California. Taking place from October 13–17, the competition will bring together collegiate aviation teams for a variety of flight and ground events.
In the weeks leading up to SAFECON, the team has continued its regular meetings and training schedule. Members have been preparing for a wide range of ground events, including SCAN, ACID, and E6B, as well as other aviation knowledge and skills competitions. These weekly meetings give our competitors the opportunity to study together, review material, and prepare for the different events they may participate in.
The team has also been holding landing tryouts and practice sessions for the flight events, including power-on and power-off landings. These practices help pilots improve their accuracy and consistency while becoming more comfortable with the different landing tasks used in competition. Team members continue to support one another by sharing feedback and helping each other improve.
With Region II SAFECON approaching, the Precision Flight Team remains focused on its preparation in both the ground and flight events. The team’s continued meetings, studying, landing practices, and flight training reflect the work being put in by its members as they prepare to represent San Jose State University in Bakersfield.
