NEW MEMBER FAQS

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

The flight team is a group of SJSU students who have a passion for aviation. We come together as a team to compete in flying and ground events that help develop your skills as an aviator. Through individual efforts and group teamwork, we represent SJSU at a series of competitions across the nation.

WHEN ARE THE MEETINGS?

Fridays at 4:30 PM in IS216 (Industrial Studies Building).

DO I HAVE TO BE A PILOT?

No. You can compete in all of the knowledge based competitions without a pilots license.

DO I HAVE TO BE AN AVIATION MAJOR?

No, we welcome everyone from all majors! Getting your pilots license and learning about aviation is a worthy endeavor even if you aren't majoring in it. In fact, we are fortunate to have members from aerospace engineering, business, and computer engineering.

HOW CAN I JOIN?

Please fill out our interest form using your SJSU gmail account and come to our first meeting on January 31st, 2025 at 4:30 PM in IS216.

WHAT KIND OF COMMITMENTS WILL I HAVE TO MAKE?

We have a regional competition in the fall semester and a national competition in the spring semester. You can qualify to go to these by passing a tryout for an event. You'll have to pay ~$40 to go to the competition (includes hotel and registration) and will be given an absence excusal letter for the 1-2 weeks that you're gone. We also have semester dues of $40.
